Urban Witch: Purification Bath Salts (8 oz jar)

Let us begin with pure intentions, a clean body and a curious spirit.

By request, these purifications salts now come in black and white.  Black salts are made at the new moon.  White salts are made at the full moon.  Due to a genuinely limited amount of storage space, supplies per month will be limited, but if you order them and they're sold out here, yours will be made in the next batch. Please practice patience.

Both the white and black salts contain the same essential oil blend and scent. The difference between the two is the color and the size of the salt grains.

These bath salts are perfect for purification baths before or after magical work. They're also just very nice to bathe in.   The black salts are dark and dramatic, and create an inky bathing experience due to the addition of activated charcoal. The white ones contain no colorant at all. All fragrances used in these salts come from essential oils, not fragrance oils.

The scent is Frankincense, Thyme, and Lemongrass. 

How should I use these?  (if you don't already have a ritual in mind)  Here's a suggestion from Sara Mastros: 

These instructions are for a bath, but you can also do them in the shower. While you can absolutely do this ritual with any kind of salt, including plain table salt, it is specifically designed to be used with “Urban Witch’s Purification Salt” from Beautiful Freak, which is black in color and scented with lemongrass, frankincense, and thyme. Begin by awakening the salt. You can write your own formula, or use this one:

Black salt, witch’s salt, volcano salt, awaken to your life and your purpose, You are the velvet darkness and the moonless night, Undriven by reckless desire, Undriven by worry, by fear, by grief,  Undriven by others’ urgency Black salt of the moonless night, I call you now to my aid.

Next, run a hot bath (or shower). Get naked, get in, and then awaken the water, by saying something like: Water of the deepest seas, awaken to your life and your purpose, You are the water of mystery, the water of the ancient of days, Untainted by the work-a-day world Untainted by worry, by fear, by grief Untainted by the harm humans do to one another Water of the deepest seas, I call you now to my aid.

If you’re taking a bath, now is the time to add the salt. If you’re in the shower, you’ll use it as a scrub a bit later on. Wash yourself, and then cast off, using the instructions above. When you’re ready, think about everything you’re trying to get rid of, emotional, psychic, spiritual, or otherwise. Speak aloud your surety that you are rid of it. Some generic words are below, as an example:

By water and salt am I made clean. My guilt is washed away. My worry is washed away. My fear is washed away. My grief is washed away. I am newborn, clean and pure. My inner vitality brings light to the darkness. My inner light brings vitality to the deep. If in the bath, try to get your whole body under the water three times. If in the shower, use the salt scrub top to bottom. Soak as long as you like, and then rinse. Get out, drain the water, and exit the room without looking back.

The Urban Witch bath salts contain as few ingredients as possible to give you the simplest experience for your needs. 

Ingredients are:

Salt (sodium chloride)
Epsom Salts (magnesium sulfate) 
Baking Soda (this is added to prevent clumping.  Salt is hydrophilic and will clump if left too long in a humid environment, like your bathroom.)
Essential Oils 
Extra Virgin Olive Oil (carrier oil)
Polysorbate 80 (this allows the oil to disperse in the water rather than float on top.) 
(for the black salts) Activated Charcoal (see: makes things black.  Also, excellent purification ingredient.)
